STORRS, Conn. - - Host third-ranked Connecticut defeated 16th-ranked Louisville in a BIG EAST field hockey matchup Friday evening.
Lizzy Peijs put the Huskies on the scoreboard at the 19:00 mark in the first half. Katie Semanoff scored two goals in a one-minute span to give UConn a 3-0 lead.
The Huskies took the 3-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Cardinals 11-4 and holding a 5-1 penalty corner advantage.
Semanoff completed her hat trick midway through the second half, increasing the lead to 4-0. Less than a minute later, Peijs notched her second score of the game. Nikki Harmony capped the scoring at the 62:58 mark in the game.
UConn finished the game with a 25-8 shot advantage and 13 penalty corners to Louisville's three. The Huskies improve to 11-1 (2-1 BIG EAST). Andrea Maniero posted eight saves in the game.
Louisville senior goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller collected 10 saves in the game. Seniors Allison Maffitt and Janelle Avila paced the Cardinal attack with three shots on goal each. The Cards drop to 6-5 (1-1).
U of L will travel to Providence for another conference game Sunday.
