Tatyana Kolesnikova had 10 kills and four blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 30-14, 30-20, 30-19 sweep of intrastate rival Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Arena. The win gave U of L head coach Leonid Yelin his 400th career win.
U of L improves to 5-4 on the strength of .343 hitting while outblocking the Colonels 16-4. EKU, which falls to 1-9 for the season, hit .043.
"It was good to be back in Cardinal Arena after six straight matches on the road," said Leonid Yelin. "I think playing the high level of competition prepared us to play well. We carried a lot of momentum from the exciting Duke win."
In the first game, U of L surged to an 11-5 lead and hit a torrid .519. The Cards outblocked EKU 5-0. In the second game, the Cardinals used a 10-0 spurt to run up a 23-13 ad. The Cardinals continued their dominance at the net, outblocking the Colonels 6-4. U of L had an 11-1 run and then held off a determined EKU team that outscored the Cardinals 9-4 down the stretch.
EKU was led by Amanda Fago's nine kills. Amanda Wilson had seven kills and three solo blocks for the Colonels. U of L's Rui Liu had eight blocks and seven kills for the Cardinals.
