
Volleyball Sweeps Intrastate Foe Morehead to Extend Streak

Lecia Brown had 10 kills and three blocks to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a three game sweep at Morehead State to extend the Cardinals' winning streak to 14 straight matches.
Louisville took the match 30-26, 30-23 and 30-20 to push its record to 17-4 while the Eagles move to 18-9. U of L hit .330 to Morehead's .176 and notched 10 aces led by Lindsey Mango and Jana Matiasovska who each had four. The Cardinals, the nation's leading blockers, outblocked the Eagles 9-3.
The Eagles stayed close in the first game as the Cardinals could not build a lead of more than four points. U of L had just a one point lead at 27-26 and called a timeout to reset and then scored on two MSU errors and a kill by Lecia Brown for the win. The Cardinals hit .290 with 13 kills and just four errors on 31 attacks.
In the second game, Lindsey Mango served for six straight points during an 8-1 run to go up 18-12. Justine Landi served for four straight later to move U of L to a 23-19 lead. U of L reached game point on a ball-handling error and before Tatyana Kolesnikova put away the game point for the win.
In the final game, U of L ramped up its hitting percentage to .412 to put away the Eagles. After building an eight point lead at 27-19, U of L had more firepower and Morehead stalled at 20 to give the Cardinals the match.
U of L returns to Cardinal Arena for its final two home matches when WVU visits Nov. 2 with Pitt following on Nov. 4. The Cardinals will honor seniors Elena Pilnikova and Svetlana Dukule in their final match in Cardinal Arena.
