The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 5-2 to visiting Michigan State Sunday afternoon in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals stand at 0-2 in their first two matches of the dual season.
"We played a very tough Michigan State team today. I am very proud of our effort against one of the top teams in the Big Ten. With two matches from this weekend, we will be prepared for BIG EAST rival Marquette this coming weekend up in Milwaukee.
The short-handed Cardinals started the match off down 2-0 before a single serve was tossed, as they had to default a singles and doubles match. However, that did not seem to a squelch a determined Cardinal squad from battling the Trojans. The No. 1 doubles pair of Robyn White and Natalie Laszkowski were nippped 8-5 by Christine Bader and Stephanie Kebler. The No. 2 pair of Bianca Gorbea and Natalia Baez hung on until falling 8-6.
Laszkowski took Kebler to task at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4, 6-4. Bianca Gorbea got U of L's other point by dispatching Milosavijevic 6-3, 6-3. At No. 1 singles, White took the first set 6-3, but fell 6-3 in the second to force the tiebreaker which she lost 10-8 in the longest match of the day.
The Cardinals are idle until Jan. 26 when they face Marquette in Milwaukee. The Cardinals will face Iowa Jan. 27 at Marquette.
