The University of Louisville women's tennis team blanked visiting Morehead State 7-0 in the second match of today's doubleheader at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"We played very well tonight," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "Suzanna Gracanin and Robyn White played extremely well today. This is particularly notable because we need our upperclassmen to step up as we approach the teeth of our schedule."
Natalie Laszkowski had a perfect showing against Morehead State when she won doubles 8-0 and singles 6-0, 6-0. Her efforts helped U of L to raise its record to 11-3.
U of L started the match by winning the doubles point. Maria Klokotzky and Robyn White won their third doubles match of the weekend at No. 1 with a 8-3 win over Mariana Weschenfelder and Leah Lobnitz. The freshman pair, Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea won 8-3 at No. 2 over Fernanda Chiaparini and Laura Ferreria. Suzanna Gracanin and Natalie Laszkowski shut out Heather Butt and Megan Sammons 8-0 at No. 3.
The Cardinals swept all six singles matches. White beat Weschenfelder at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 effort. At No. 2, Gorbea held off Chiaparini 6-2, 6-0 as did Gracanin at No. 3 against Ferreria. Laszkowski and Baez both won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. Stephania Velazquez beat Heather Butt 6-1, 6-0.
"We have two difficult matches next weekend with South Alabama, which is ranked in the Top 30 and then Minnesota a tough Big Ten team. We hope our fans come out and support us."
