Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 to Kansas

After dropping the doubles point, the University of Louisville women's tennis team battled with four three-set matches before falling 4-3 to visiting Kansas Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. U of L is now 9-2 on the season.

"This was a very tough match," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "Give Kansas the credit, they came into our house and outplayed us."

The Cardinals narrowly lost the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Robyn White and Maria Klokotzky won 8-4 over Elizaveta Ardeeva and Ksenia Bukina. Natalie Laszkowski and Suzanna Gracanin narrowly lost at No. 2 by a score of 8-5. Bianca Gorbea and Stephania Velazquez valiantly took on Christine Skoda and Britany Brown before falling 9-7.

"The match was basically decided afterthe doubles point," said Davis. "KU had more energy and momentum after that. We had dug ourselves a hole and couldn't fight out of it."

Klokotzky dropped her No. 1 singles match to Bukina 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3). At No. 2, Gorbea dropped her first set 6-4 and came back to win her second 6-4 but fell 6-1 in the third. Robyn White came back to win at No. 3 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Skoda. Gracanin won in two sets with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lauren Hommell. Laszkowski hung on to win 6-7, 6-2, 6-2

"Robyn White had an excellent day for us in both singles and doubles," said Greg Davis, U of L head coach. "Whenever we play a big opponent, she rises to the occasion."

U of L was to play another match Saturday evening against Wright State but it will be rescheduled at a later date due to unfavorable driving conditions north of Louisville.
