LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Juan Palacios and Edgar Sosa led Louisville with 16 points each in 99-69 win Saturday night over Sacramento State. Palacios led the Cardinals (2-1) with 10 rebounds.
Five Cardinals scored in double figures.
It was the second time in three games this season that the Cardinals scored 99 or more.
Forward Alex Bausley led the Hornets (4-5) 20 points and nine rebounds.
The game was never in question as the Cardinals took an 8-0 lead and led 52-25 at the half.
Louisville forward Terrence Williams missed all 10 of his field goals, but got three points from the free-throw line. Williams had six rebounds and led the Cardinals with eight assists.
Freshman Jerry Smith scored 11 of the Cardinals first 13 points with four layups and three free throws. Smith finished with 15 points and leads the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points a game. Saturday was his first start of the season.
The Cardinals' biggest lead of the game, 35 points, came with about five minutes left. Will Scott made a three-pointer to make the score 90-55.
Coach Rick Pitino was disappointed with his team's rebounding effort in the previous game, a loss to Dayton, and said he would make lineup changes. The Cardinals won the battle on the boards but got six rebounds from their centers against the Flyers.
Louisville started the game with a three-guard lineup of freshmen Smith and Edgar Sosa, and senior Brandon Jenkins. Forwards Palacios and Williams filled out the first five.
Centers Jonathan Huffman and David Padgett played a combined 17 minutes.
Louisville outrebounded the Hornets 42-40, but Sacramento State got 20 offensive rebounds.
The Cardinals' second-leading scorer Andre McGee missed the game after surgery on his knee.
