
No. 14 Field Hockey Tops Ball State 5-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - - The No. 14 ranked University of Louisville field hockey team scored five goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 win over former Mid-American Conference foe Ball State Saturday at Northwestern.
Louisville started the scoring at the 7:09 mark in the first half as junior Jen Kastelic connected on a pass from junior Jessica Javelet. Sophomore Janelle Avila took another pass from Javelet to increase U of L's lead to 2-0 at the 16:05 mark.
Senior Jen Payne delivered an unassisted goal at the 25:07 mark to make it a 3-0 game. Payne assisted on sophomore Casey Diener's goal with less than three minutes remaining the first half.
Two minutes later, junior Lisa Wasser capped the Cardinal scoring with a goal on a direct penalty corner shot. Kastelic and senior April White assisted on the play.
U of L took the 5-0 lead into halftime, outshooting BSU 12-3 and holding a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Ball State got on the scoreboard in the second half when Chantel Isaac-Smith connected on a pass from Katie Kloeckener at the 64:20 mark for a final of 5-1.
Louisville sophomore goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller (6-2) played the entire game to get the win. BSU goalkeeper Tracy Bannister (1-5) took the loss, allowing four goals and posting three saves in 32:45. Jessica Malone allowed one goal and registered two saves in 37:15. Ball State falls to 1-5 on the season. Louisville outshot Ball State 24-8 and had 11 penalty corners to BSU's four in the game.
U of L (6-2) will take on host Northwestern (5-1) Sunday at noon.
