
Men's Soccer to Kick Off Season at UK Invitational

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville Men's soccer team will kick off the regular season Friday evening at the UK Invitational. The Cardinals will play instate rival Kentucky at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. Louisville will face High Point on Saturday, September 3 at 5:00 p.m.
The Cardinals finished with an exhibition record of 3-0. Louisville defeated UNC-Asheville 6-0, Xavier 2-1, and the alumni 8-2 on Saturday. In the alumni game, senior Ryan Edwards finished with three goals and sophomore Anthony Celebre finished with two goals. Newcomer Frank Jonke led the Cardinals with three goals in their first two exhibition games before sitting out in the alumni game.
UK finished with an exhibition record of 0-0-2. The Cats finished in a 1-1 tie with Michigan State and a scoreless tie with Oakland on Saturday. The Wildcats' lone goal was scored by senior Thomas Senecal. The Wildcats' goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum was named a preseason first-team All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com.
High Point finished the exhibition season with a 0-1 record. The Panthers fell to Gardner-Webb 2-0 on Saturday. The Panthers return seven starters including First Team All-Big South selection, junior, Chris Archer. Archer finished the season ranked 15th nationally in goals per game. The Panthers finished last season with a record of 7-12-1.
