Manisha Patel, who has acted as volunteer assistant coach for the last three years with the Cardinal women's tennis team, has been named full-time assistant coach.
"We are ecstatic that Manisha is now full-time with us. I feel she will be a major positive force for our program," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "She was one of the top players we ever had in U of L history and we've been lucky to have kept her around the program. She has a lot to give to our players. I am looking forward to working beside her as we take the program to the next level.
A former U of L standout from 1996-99, Patel holds the record for career doubles wins with 113. She is tied for second on the list for career singles wins with 100 and ranks third on the school's list for singles wins in a season with a 32-12 record in 1997. That year she earned All-Conference Team honors. She was named team MVP her sophomore year.
As a senior, Patel teamed with Nadia Karpol for a No. 40 ITA doubles ranking. She entered the 1999 season at No. 39 in the Southeast Region.
Manisha brings her experiences as a former number one player here at U of L and uses it to help the younger players. She has been the pro at the Louisville Boat Club where she has also coached junior tournament level players as well as successful USTA Adult Teams.
The Owensboro, Ky. native came from Apollo High School where she earned All-State honors all four years. She was recently inducted into Apollo's Athletic Hall of Fame. Patel earned her degree in Marketing at U of L.
