
Women's Basketball Adds Transfer

Louisville, Ky. - Toni Slaughter, a 6-0 guard from Shelbyville, Ky. who played the last two seasons at the University of Cincinnati, has transferred to the University of Louisville.
Slaughter started 27 games for the Bearcats last season and ranked second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.1 points and led the team in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game. She also shot 34.8 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from the three-point line and 67.1 percent from the free throw line.
"We are very excited to add Toni to our program," said head coach Tom Collen. "Her two years of experience at the Division I level will be a great asset to our program. She is an extremely versatile athlete that can play either the two or three positions. Toni is extremely athletic and a good three-point shooter. We really like having another local player on our roster, especially one that can impact us right away."
Slaughter signed financial aid documents with U of L and is currently enrolled in summer school. She will sit out the 2005-06 season and will have two years of eligibility with the Cardinals.
As a freshman Slaughter saw action in all 29 games and started in 11 of those games. She finished the season averaging 6.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. She shot 43.3 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from the three-point line.
Slaughter finished her senior season at Shelby County High School averaging 15.9 points and 7.9 rebounds. She finished her career at Shelby County with 1,699 points and 782 rebounds. She was named to the Louisville Courier Journal All-State team her senior season. Slaughter also played for the Kentucky All-Star team. She was ranked as one of the Top 60 wings in the nation by All-Star Girls Report.
As a junior Slaughter averaged 18.6 points and seven rebounds, earning all-state honorable mention honors. In her four seasons with Shelby County, Slaughter helped guide the team to a record of 112-19.
