Cardinals Finish Sixth at Miami Invitational on Saturday

OXFORD, Ohio - University of Louisville freshman Brad Keys won both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Cardinal track and field teams at the Miami Invitational on Saturday at George L. Rider Track. The U of L men earned a fifth-place finish with 58.50 points while the U of L women were sixth overall with 58 points.
Keys, a native of South Charleston, W.V., won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.04 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.34 seconds. Junior Marcus Barnes had a solid showing as well after earning a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.10 while sophomore Ronnie Stringer was third in the 100m with a time of 11.11.
Senior John Blackwell finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 49 feet, 3 inches while the 4x100-meter relay team of Antoine Wilson, Andre' Foster, Keys and Stringer finished fourth overall with a time of 42.72.
Overall, Cincinnati won the men's team title with 201.5 points to best a field of 10 teams. Kent State was second with 162 points followed by Miami with 149.5, Ohio with 62 and Louisville with 58.5.
Leading the way for the Cardinal women were Ify Akubeze, LaShondra Durias, Jennifer Hartig and Aajah Showell as all four earned second-place finishes. Akubeze, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, earned second in the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 9.5 inches, while Durias, a native of Louisville, Ky., finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.36 seconds. Hartig, a native of Alexandria, Ky., was second in the pole vault with a mark of 11-11.75, while Showell closed things out with a second-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39 seconds.
Overall, Ball State won the women's title with 144.5 points to finish ahead of a field 13 teams. Miami was second with 113 points followed by Kent State with 112, Cincinnati with 87.5, Bowling Green with 70 and Louisville with 58.
Up next, the Cardinal men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the Pacesetter Invitational hosted Indiana State University on April 15-16 in Terre Haute, Ind.
