The University of Louisville women's tennis team came back from a 0-3 deficit to upset No. 66 Ohio State 4-3 in Columbia, Missouri. The Cardinals move to 13-5 for the season.
The Cardinals dropped the doubles point but didn't go down without a fight. Kelly Taylor and Natalie Laszkowski, who moved up to No. 1, fell 8-5 to Lindsey Adams and Sonia Rusimovsky. Suzanna Gracanin and Robyn White were edged 8-6 at No. 2 and U of L had to default No. 3 doubles.
"I am so proud of the team to scratch and claw to upset this Big Ten team after being down 3-0 says a lot for their effort and heart today," said Greg Davis, U of L head coach. "It is our first ever win against Ohio State."
In singles, Leslie Stewart fell 6-1, 6-4 to Adams and U of L had to default No. 6 singles. That left the burden of the point scoring to the middle of the Cardinal lineup and it took two three-set matches to get it done.
At No. 3 singles, Taylor eked out a 7-5 win in the first set and got hammered 0-6 in the second. She regrouped and won 6-2 in the third. Laszkowski was edged 6-7 at No. 5 in the first set and squeaked by 7-6 in the second set before rolling 6-0 in the third. Gracanin edged Sonia Ruzimovsky 7-6 in the first set at No. 4 and then won 6-4 in the second.
