The University of Louisville women's tennis team upset the North Carolina State Wolfpack 5-2 at the neutral site on the campus of Marshall University.
The Cardinals improve their record to 7-2 with the win.
"This was a big win for us against a tough ACC opponent. They were definitely the favored team going into the match," said U of L coach Greg Davis. "I am proud of the grit we showed coming off yesterday's five hour match."
The Cardinals took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Natalie Laszkowski and Kelly Taylor dispatched their opponent 8-2. No. 3 pair Robyn White and Ariana Marshall battled to an 8-6 win over Virginia Romero and Julia Roach to clinch the point.
"I am very proud of this team and this win will help our momentum going into next weekend's match against Middle Tennessee this coming Friday," said Davis.
Freshman Robyn White beat Elin Stahl-Johansson 6-2, 7-5 with fellow frosh Suzanna Gracanin winning at No. 5 over Agustina Arechavaleta with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
"The freshman really stepped up for us," said Davis. "I thought Natalie Laszkowski had a great match."
Laszkowski, bolstered by her doubles win, took her No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-0 from Julia Roach. Ariana Marshall contributed a win at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Danielle Stadelmann.
