
Cards Fall 71-65 in Overtime at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina hit 12 of 14 from the line in overtime to defeat the Louisville Cardinals (17-7, 8-3) 71-65 Sunday afternoon in Williams Arena. Yuliya Tokova finished with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds and Jazz Covington had 15 points and 12 rebounds. East Carolina's Jennifer Jackson finished with 31 points.
The Cardinals built an early 14-5 lead in the first half and held East Carolina without a field goal for five minutes. The Lady Pirates cut the lead to one with 24 seconds remaining in the half, but Covington scored on the putback to give the Cards a 26-23 lead at the half.
Louisville finished the first half shooting 34.6 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from behind the arc. The Lady Pirates finished the half shooting 33.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from behind the three point line.
East Carolina started the second half with a 6-0 run to go up 29-26 with just under two minutes into the half. After a timeout the Cardinals tied the game up at 29 with two free throws from Tokova. The score was tied once more at 31 before Louisville went on a 12-4 run go up 43-35 with 9:52 left to play. Viola Cooper hit a three-pointer and Jackson hit one of two from the line to cut the lead to 46-43 with just under seven minutes left in regulation.
Louisville held on to a three point lead with four seconds remaining, Jackson hit a three-pointer from the left side of the court to take the game into overtime.
Louisville finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field and 21.7 percent from the three-point line. East Carolina finished the game shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from the three-point line. Louisville outrebounded East Carolina 44-37.
Louisville will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 18 in Cardinal Arena against Southern Miss at 7 p.m.
