Louisville Notes
- Junior running back Michael Bush scored two rushing touchdowns to tie the Louisville school record with 20 rushing TDs, shared by Eric Shelton (2004) and Lenny Lyles (1957). Bush, who entered the game as the nation's scoring leader, has scored a rushing touchdown in eight straight games. He has 33 career rushing touchdowns, second-best all-time for a U of L player. He ran for 115 yards on 16 carries before leaving the game in the third quarter with a sprained left foot (x-rays were negative; he will have an MRI Friday). It was his fifth 100+ rushing yardage game of the season and eighth of his career.
- Sophomore placekicker Art Carmody tied a U of L record with four field goals (in four attempts), matching Nate Smith who accomplished the same feat against Houston on Nov. 18, 2000. He booted the two longest field goals of his career, a 46-yard kick in the second quarter and a career-long 47-yard field goal with five seconds left in the first half. Carmody is now tied for fifth in career field goals, connecting on 22 of 27.
- Sophomore safety Deon Palmer recorded his second touchdown of the season when he recovered the opening kickoff in the end zone for a touchdown. He also returned a fumble 42 yards for a score in a 69-14 win over North Carolina.
- Senior wide receiver Joshua Tinch caught a pass in his 24th consecutive game. He had a team-high seven catches for 72 yards, moving him into eighth place in school history with 139 career receptions.
- DE Elvis Dumervil (pronounced DOO-mer-vill) recorded one sack to move his season total to a nation-leading 20 sacks. He is just four sacks short of the NCAA single-season record. Dumervil also forced one fumble to give him nine for the season, a new NCAA record.
- Sophomore QB Brian Brohm completed 21-of-31 passes for 247 yards. Brohm entered the game as the nation's leader in passing efficiency and 16th in total offense.
- RB Kolby Smith returned to action after missing two games with an injury. He totalled 58 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown, his second-best rushing yardage effort of the season.
- U of L improved to 20-1 when scoring over 40 points under coach Bobby Petrino. The Cardinals have produced over 40 points in 16 of the last 22 games.
- U of L is 14-1 in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium under head coach Bobby Petrino. The Cards have won nine straight home games, the longest streak since the Cards won 10 in 1992-93. U of L has averaged 58.8 points in three home games this season.
- With its sixth victory of the season, the Cardinals are bowl-eligible for the eighth straight year. fÞ The sellout crowd of 42,692 was the largest in Papa John¡¦s Cardinal Stadium history. U of L has sold out all four of its home games to date.
- U of L wore black uniforms for the first time since the 1984 season.
- Louisville did not punt the entire game.
- Bobby Petrino quickie quote: ¡§I was pleased with our performance on both sides of the ball today. I thought our offense was aggressive and physical, and our defense flew around to the football. We have to take this one game at a time. We¡¦re 2-2 in the BIG EAST and have Rutgers coming in next week. We know they¡¦re a good football team. We just have to get back to work and continue to get better.¡¨
