Recap | Box Score | Notes
Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"There's not a whole lot you can say because we just overmatched them in this basketball game. We played really str0ng defense in the first half and it was one of those nights where everything went right for us in the first half and nothing went right for them in the first half."
"Otis (George) is a big factor for us on defense. He rotates properly and he plays everybody else's man and his own man. Our guys did a very good job of coming back inside and rebounding the basketball tonight. When we didn't get the rebound, we were slapping down and did a good job of going after the basketball."
"We're going to play Brandon (Jenkins) at two positions next year, the point and the shooting guard, so it's important that he develops that part (his outside shooting) of his game. We work so hard in our individual instruction on our ball fake moves, our pivot moves and our shooting. Lorrenzo Wade came in here with a Hajj </~nbsp>Turner shooting form and he's really improved his shooting tremendously. Brandon has improved his shooting tremendously as well. These guys have really paid the price because they work very hard on shooting."
"This type of win was very unexpected. This is a team that we probably got the residual effects of all of the struggles they've had of late. They battled back against Cincinnati and only lost to South Florida by one and battled UAB. I guess they've played such a strong schedule of late that their heads were down a little bit and we got them at that point."
East Carolina Head Coach Bill Herrion
"We were just thoroughly beat tonight by a very good team. We have been playing good basketball. We just had a tough stretch of the conference schedule with Cincinnati, Louisville, Charlotte, UAB and it has taken a toll our team. My biggest concern is to regroup because we have to leave tomorrow for Chicago and DePaul."
"U of L is a good team and we are a young team that is very fragile and we looked like a deer in the headlights. What was disappointing was that we have played with these guys in the past. It was a seven point game last year in the tournament but we are not ready for this kind of basketball. They are so physical and we are finesse. Their defense smothered us. Your confidence slumps when you go that long without scoring. We had to pick our poison. We don't match up very well man to man so we played zone. When Louisville is making their three pointers, they can beat anyone in the country. We just held our breath and prayed they wouldn't make their threes."
