
Field Hockey Falls to Stanford 2-1

STANFORD, Calif. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team fell to host Stanford 2-1 Sunday at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf. Stanford took an early lead just 3:48 into the game when Katherine Brooks connected on an assist from Liz Robinson. Four minutes later, U of L senior Suzanne Irwin tied the game at 1-1 as the Cardinals took advantage of a penalty corner. The teams took the tie into halftime. Midway through the second half, Stanford's Robinson broke the tie with an assist from Mandy Kovach at the 53:26 mark, giving the Cardinal the 2-1 win. Louisville outshot Stanford 17-8 and held an 8-6 penalty corner advantage in the contest. Goalkeeper Jenna Halulko (1-3) had one save. Stanford goalie Ana Kralovec (2-3) posted nine stops. The Cardinal improves to 2-3 on the season. U of L (1-3) will travel to two-time defending national champion Wake Forest (4-0) on Sunday, Sept. 12.
