Michael Hailey, assistant at Tulane, has been named assistant women's tennis coach at the University of Louisville.
"I am very excited to add Michael to my staff. I was really looking to bring in someone who has a history of knowing how to win as a player and coach and Michael is a perfect fit," said U of L head coach Greg Davis, whose 2003 squad posted its second straight 20-win season. "Michael's experience as a will be helpful in taking our team to the next level."
Hailey assisted the Green Wave staff for the Tulane women's team that reached the round of 16 and finished No. 11 in the country. Every singles player for Tulane was ranked and the same was true for the doubles teams. The Green Wave won the Conference USA Championship that was hosted in Louisville at the Bass Rudd Tennis Center. With 27 wins, the Green Wave notched the second most wins in Division I.
Hailey also volunteered with Tulane's men's team which reached the second round of the NCAA and finished ranked in the Top 20. Tulane won the Conference USA Championship and had singles player Michael Kogan reach NCAA Singles Finals Match.
As a player, Hailey joined the Mississippi State squad as a junior and played as high as No. 1 doubles and No. 5 singles for the Bulldogs. MSU made the NCAA Tournament and finished ranked No. 42 his senior year.
"I have always wanted to be a college coach and I am thankful that Greg and the U of L staff believed enough in my experience to give me a chance. This program and university is headed in the right direction and I feel I can contribute greatly to get this team to where it wants to be.
