
Men in Fourth After Day Two of Conference USA Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's track and field team is in fourth place after day two of the Conference USA Championship Friday. The three-day event is being held at Cardinal Park.
The Louisville men's point total remained at 27 points with five events scored. Cincinnati took the lead in the men's standings with 34 points, narrowly ahead of Marquette (32), Memphis (31) and Louisville.
Sophomore Jonathan Combs ran the second fastest 400-meter dash time in school history to advance to Saturday's finals. Combs advanced with a time of 47.62, the fastest since Audley Gordon set the record of 47.03 in 1986.
Freshman Ronnie Stringer also advanced to the finals in his event as he ran the eighth fastest qualifying time in the 200-meter dash. Stringer finished the race in 21.62 seconds, a personal-best effort and the sixth best ever by a Cardinal.
On Thursday, the Cardinals placed three guys in the top four of the hammer throw. Senior Joe Swiderski finished second with a throw of 172-9 to lead the Cards. Sophomore Arthur Turland was third at 172-8 and senior Josh Brannen was fourth at 167-8.
In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Wes Seacat paced the Cardinals with a third-place time of 31:37.33, the seventh fastest time in school history. Junior Michael Jesse placed seventh in 32:22.76 to round out the Cardinal scorers on day one.
The final of the C-USA Championship begins Saturday at 9 a.m. Due to heavy rains, three events were postponed Friday and will be held Saturday. The men's long jump will begin at 9 a.m., the women's pole vault will resume at 11 a.m. and the women's high jump will be staged at 1 p.m. All other events will remain as scheduled.
Tickets for the event are $7 for adults. Tickets for students with a valid college ID and those 18 and under are $4 per day. Children two and under will be admitted free.
Tickets will be sold at the gate of both the Cardinal Park Track Stadium and at the throws field located near old Parkway Field. Wristbands will be issued so that fans can get in at both venues throughout the day.
