
Women's Basketball Season Ends with WNIT

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball season was ended with a 63-61 loss to Western Michigan in the opening round of the WNIT on Thursday night. Freshman Jazz Covington tied a career-high with 17 rebounds and added 12 points. Junior Angel Bradley led the team with 19 points and after going scoreless in the first half senior Sara Nord added 12 points.
Louisville led 58-52 with 5:58 remaining in the game. The Broncos cut the lead to four with a jumper by Kelly Koerber. Then the Broncos hit 5 of 6 from the line to cut the lead to 61-59 with 3:51 remaining. Koerber hit another jumper to tie the score at 61 with just under three minutes remaining. Covington missed a shot and Korber hit 1 of 2 from the line to take a one point lead with 34 seconds remaining.
Sophomore Jessica Huggins' missed a three-pointer and a foul was called on Katie Olson while fighting for the rebound. Western Michigan's Carrie Moore hit 1 of 2 from the line with 11 seconds remaining to go up 63-61. After a timeout Nord got a three-point shot off and it bounced off the rim. Covington grabbed the rebound and made a shot but they called it after the buzzer.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 37.1 percent while Western Michigan shot 41.5 percent. Louisville outrebounded Western Michigan 39-36. Koerber led Western Michigan with 23 points.
The first half was a close game, Western Michigan's Moore made a layup at the buzzer to go up 32-31 at the half. Louisville shot 45.2 percent in the first half while the Broncos shot 38.2.
