The University of Louisville women's tennis team battled DePaul for five hours before falling 4-3 in Conference USA tennis action as the front end of the Cardinals' weekend doubleheader.
"It was a tough battle against a very good DePaul team," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "Two blue collar teams in a five-hour match. I can't say enough about how we battled this team."
The Cardinals were able to edge the Demons in doubles but it was no easy task. The freshman pair of Michele Spiess and Julia Hierl beat Marina Parashkevova and Gergana Ganeva at No. 1 doubles 9-8. Natalie Laszkowski and Kelly Taylor partnered to beat Brenda Leung and Petra Rehusova, 9-8 to clinch the point.
The Cardinals won two singles matches but it wasn't enough to take the match. Kelly Taylor beat Leung and Laszkowski beat Karen Falduto in three sets for U of L's other points. Spiess fell to Ganeva at No. 1 in three sets, with Christina Gogol falling 6-1, 6-0 to Parashkevova at No. 2.
