
Cardinals Win Seven Events at Findlay Open

FINDLAY, Ohio - Junior Ify Akubeze and senior Amanda Bell each won a pair of events to lead the University of Louisville women's track and field team at the Findlay Open Friday in Findlay, Ohio.
Akubeze shattered the school's triple jump record with a mark of 39 feet, 6.50 inches to win the event. She beat her own record, set earlier this year, by nearly one foot. The Cincinnati native also won the long jump competition with a personal-best jump of 18-7.75, the fifth best in school history.
Bell won both the mile and the 3000-meter run. The Clarksville, Ind., native won the mile with a time of 5 minutes, 7.27 seconds and finished 15 seconds ahead of the pack in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:25.76 to gain her second win in the event this winter.
Sophomore Emily Kost set a personal record in the shot put to win the event with a put of 43-4.50. Freshman ZeNai Savage was third in the event (41-8).
In the 200-meter dash, freshman Kelly Ennis won her first collegiate race with a time of 26.28, the fifth fastest time by a freshman in school history. She also finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash (1:00.97). Junior Anita Winters-Dixon was second in the 200m with a time of 26.46.
Sophomore Kelley Bowman won the high jump for the second time this year after clearing a height of 5-5. Senior Mindy Helman placed third and freshman Aajah Showell tied for fourth with heights of 5-1.
In the 55-meter hurdles, senior Kelly Faber and Showell continued their assault on the school record books. Faber finished runner-up with a time of 8.39, while Showell was third in 8.42, the second and third fastest times in UofL history. The duo has combined to record nine of the fastest 10 times in school history this year, including Faber's record time of 8.30.
Freshman Holly Geers, junior Corryn McCrae and seniors Emily Daunhauer and Laine Hamman finished 3-6 in the mile behind Bell, while sophomore Jennifer Hartig placed third in the pole vault to round out the Cardinals' to finishers.
