Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"It was one of our better defensive games of the season and was the highest deflection total I've ever had as a coach. We didn't press at all in the second half and it's very unusual to get that kind of deflection number without pressing. We had 60 deflections for the game and that's extraordinarily high. We really wanted to accomplish a number of things with this game including get ready for league play and do it at the defensive end. We really wanted to guard the three-point attempt tonight which we didn't do against IUPUI, and we did a very good job of not allowing them to make a three tonight."
"I think our guys have done a good job all year long. The only area that I'm still not overly pleased with is our blocking out. I think we've been doing a good job of attacking the basket. I think we've been doing a good job with our defenses and our presses have been getting us some easy buckets. I'm very pleased with all that and we're still going to continue to work on blocking out, though it is getting significantly better. But we still have a long way to go."
"Ball movement, player movement and unselfish play will get you good looks from the three and we did a good job of that tonight. Our guys were dribble-penetrating; they knew were their guys were and they trusted them."
Morehead State Head Coach Kyle Macy
"We knew coming in that we were overmatched but we hoped we could learn something from them. One: how hard they play, Two: how well they play and how physical. Quite frankly, we panicked and I am not sure why. We practiced against the press. But anytime you commit 30 turnovers, that is 30 possessions you can't score. We know we are not a good team right now and we need to stop worrying about our individual stats and how we look. But part of that is being young and inexperienced. No one stepped up when Chad McKnight was shut down. They are a good team that plays hard and is physical. You have to take what is given you. If they call the game closely, you have lay back and if they let it go, you have to go ahead and foul more. I think we were back on our heels and were intimidated. We have to play teams like this financially. This year it is UK, U of L and Ohio State where they have real good teams, beautiful arenas and real good fans. We are lucky that we don't have to go far to meet teams of this caliber and waste money on travel. The experience is something you can use when conference play comes along. ....We panicked and didn't sprint to our spots and we were back on our heels most of the game. "
