
Volleyball Sweeps Marquette

MILWAUKEE -- Svetlana Dukule had 19 kills, an ace and four blocks to lead the No. 21-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a three game sweep of Marquette in Conference USA volleyball action Saturday night. The Cardinals won 30-24, 30-22, 30-26.
Despite ten serving errors, Louisville had a hot hitting hand, with a .333 average and 11 total blocks. Marquette hit .138 and had three blocks.
U of L moves to 11-2 and 2-0 in C-USA before a school record Marquette crowd of 733. The Golden EEagles fall to 9-5 and 0-2 in the league.
The first game started out tight but with the score tied at 13, U of L went on an 8-0 run. Marquette scrambled back to close the margin to three at 24-21 on a miss by Bing Sun. U of L outscored the Eagles 5-2 down the stretch for the 30-24 win. U of L hit . 471 and had five blocks. The Eagles hit .171 and had two blocks. U of L was led by Svetlana Dukule's seven kills.
U of L jumped out to a 11-5 lead in the second set but Marquette powered back to a 13-13 tie. U of L went on a 12-4 to push the score to 26-17. Marquette held off game point twice but a Dukule kill gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead going into the break. U of L hit .318 in the second game to MU's .109. Dukule had nine more kills in the second set to lead the Cards.
In the final set Marquette battled to ties at 13, 15, 15, 18 and 19 before U of L got some breathing room with three straight points to go up 22-19 and forced an MU timeout. MU pulled to within two at 24-22 and Yelin called a timeout after a service ace by Aga Niemcezeska. The Eagles would not go away. With a 27-26 lead, U of L scored twice on kills by Dukule and Sun.
U of L libero reset her career best in digs with 15. Setters Jennifer Craven and Elena Pilnikova combined for 42 assists.
