
Field Hockey Tops Central Michigan 4-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated visiting Central Michigan 4-1 in a Mid-American Conference game Friday at Trager Stadium.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard seven minutes into the game when sophomore Jessica Javelet netted an unassisted goal to give Louisville a 1-0 lead. After outshooting the Chippewas 9-0 in the first half, the Cards took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Central Michigan capitalized on a penalty corner to tie the game at 1-1 with 24:25 remaining in the second half. CMU's Cortney Blanchard delivered the goal on the initial shot with assists from Kim Ferris and Michelle Fogle to make it a 1-1 contest.
U of L pulled ahead when freshman Missy Briery connected on an assist from Javelet to make the score 2-1 with 16:02 remaining the game.
Six minutes later, sophomore Lisa Wasser gave the Cardinals an insurance goal when she converted a penalty stroke, making it a 3-1 game.
Freshman Casey Diener delivered on a Wasser assist with 2:17 left in the game to give U of L the 4-1 win.
The Cardinals outshot Central Michigan 14-5 and held a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners. U of L freshman goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller posted two saves en route to the win. CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank had six stops in the game. The Chippewas fall to 4-6 (2-4 MAC).
Louisville (7-8, 5-1) will celebrate senior day and close the home season against Ball State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
