The University of Louisville women's tennis team lost its first match of the dual season when they fell 7-0 to intrastate rival Kentucky in Lexington.
"Kentucky played a very good match against us," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "They are very well coached and we showed our inexperience at times."
Leslie Stewart fell to No. 23 Aibika Kalsarieva 6-1, 6-1 victory after the Wildcats swept the doubles point. Joelle Schwenk beat Kelly Taylor by a 6-0, 6-3 count at the No. 3 position.
At No. 2, Sarah Foster was able to defeat Michele Spiess, 6-2, 6-4. Julia Hierl fell to Laura Maurer in straight sets, Caroline Winebrenner won with a straight setter over Christina Gogol. Christina Simpson had to rally from a first-set loss when Natalie Laszkowski took her toa third-set where Simpson won in a 10-point tiebreaker at No. 6.
The Cardinals (2-1) travel to Tuscaloosa, to take on Alabama next Friday as the dual season continues.
