Women's Tennis Upends Austin Peay

The University of Louisville women's tennis team scored its second shutout of the day with a 7-0 win over Austin Peay Saturday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals shut out Butler 7-0 earlier Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals won the doubles point with a sweep of all three positions. Newcomers Michele Spiess and Leslie Stewart shut out Jenica Proctor and Nikki TaFolla at No. 1 doubles. Christina Gogol and Kelly Taylor swept at No. 2 with Paige Eber and Natalie Laszkowski taking the No. 3 spot 8-1.
"We played a very dominating match. It was great to get some momentum going into our next two matches against Kentucky and Alabama," said head coach Greg Davis.
The singles play for the match saw all six positions score two set wins. Spiess won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 with Stewart sweeping her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Julia Hierl stepped in at No .3 and beat Jessie Mills 6-1, 6-0. Gogal handled Alana Carere 6-2 ,6-0. Laszkowski and Eber won at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
The Cardinals travel to Kentucky tomorrow for their first road match of the dual season.
