Field Hockey Falls to Ball State 2-0

Louisville, Ky. - - The fourteenth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell to visiting Ball State 2-0 in a Mid-American Conference matchup Saturday at Trager Stadium.
Ball State's Becky Weaver took advantage of her team's only penalty corner in the game when she connected on a rebound off of Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey's pads to give BSU a 1-0 lead at the 20:40 mark. Ball State took the 1-0 lead into halftime, after holding U of L to only one shot and five penalty corners in the first half.
BSU's Lindsay Quay added an insurance goal when she put the ball in the cage at the 39:58 mark in the game to make the score 2-0.
Ball State's defense held strong as U of L outshot them 8-2 and drew 10 penalty corners in the second half.
Hershey, the starting goalkeeper for Louisville, took the loss allowing two goals and posting three saves. Ball State goalkeeper Tracy Bannister collected three stops in the shutout.
U of L outshot Ball State 9-5 and held a 15-1 penalty corner advantage in the contest. Ball State improves to 5-5 (2-0 MAC).
Louisville (5-4, 1-1) will travel to Oxford, Ohio to play MAC opponent Miami on Friday, Oct. 3.
