
Field Hockey Edges Miami 2-1 in OT

The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Miami (Ohio) 2-1 in overtime in a Mid-American Conference contest Friday in Oxford, Ohio.
After a scoreless first half, freshman Jessica Javelet put the Cardinals on the scoreboard when she connected on a pass from sophomore Rachel Overton at the 54:29 mark in the game.
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Miami's Angie Snedden tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal. The teams remained tied at the end of the second half and the game went into a 15-minute sudden-victory overtime period.
Senior Olivia Netzler scored on an assist from freshman Lisa Wasser 6:29 minutes into the extra period to give U of L the 2-1 win.
The Cardinals outshot the RedHawks 19-8 in the game and held a 16-2 penalty corner advantage. Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey had five saves and allowed one goal while Miami's Kerri Matthews had 13 stops in the game and allowed two goals. Miami falls to 1-8 (0-3 MAC).
Louisville (6-4, 2-1) will play host to fifth-ranked Michigan Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium. U of L is currently No. 18 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
