
Field hockey defeats Southwest Missouri State 2-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Southwest Missouri State 2-1 Sunday at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 3-3, while the Bears fall to 1-4 on the season.
U of L got on the scoreboard at the 13:46 mark in the game when freshman Jessica Javelet took a rebound off of a Bear defender's stick and netted her first collegiate goal to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
The lead held until Southwest Missouri's Adrien Trumpy intercepted a Cardinal pass at midfield, dribbled down the line and dished the ball to Abbey Rolfe who tied the game at 1-1 with 4:29 left to play.
The Cardinals answered a minute later when junior Kim Hughes connected on a penalty corner with assists from sophomore April White and senior Olivia Netzler to give U of L the 2-1 win.
Louisville goalkeeper senior Christy Hershey posted two saves in the game while Southwest Missouri's Jessie Lininger had four stops. The Cardinals outshot the Bears 10-3 and held a 9-2 penalty corner advantage.
The Cards, currently ranked No. 15 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll will travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 10:00 a.m.
