
Cardinal Throwers, Distance Runners Lead Men at Purdue and Raleigh

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's track and field throwers and a pair of distance runners had success this weekend at the Purdue Invitational and Raleigh Relays.
At Purdue, freshman Arthur Turland finished among the top six in all three events, including two runner-up finishes. Turland placed second in both the shot put (49-4.50) and discus (163-5) and also had a season-best throw of 171-2 in the hammer throw to place sixth.
Junior Troy Williams also had a big day as he had a personal-best throw of 157-3 in the discus to place third. Williams also finished third in the shot put with a mark of 43-11.25.
Freshman Brandon Cook (138-3) and junior John Blackwell (136-6) placed ninth, and 10th, respectively in the hammer throw.
In Raleigh, junior Josh Gentry turned in an eighth-place performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:28.23. Senior Tim Franxman finished 52nd in the 5000-meter run in 16:18.51.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday when they host the Cardinal Challenge at Cardinal Park. The meet is the first of two home track and field events this spring for U of L.
