
Cockley Wins Pole Vault at Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Junior Eric Cockley captured the pole vault event to lead the University of Louisville men's track and field team Saturday at the Alabama Relays.
The event, which has more than 40 schools represented, is being hosted by the University of Alabama.
Cockley cleared a personal-best height of 15 feet, seven inches to win the event by six inches. The Frankfort, Ky., native's previous best of 15-5 was set last year.
Freshman Arthur Turland continued his success with a third-place finish in the hammer throw. Turland, who has already qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the discus, had a season-best hammer throw of 168-2, less than four feet off the winning mark.
Junior Josh Gentry knocked six seconds off his personal-best time in the 3000m steeplechase after finishing seventh with a time of 9:31.15.
In the 1500m run, freshman Vernon Stephen (4:04.88) and senior Tim Franxman (4:05.16) placed 15th and 16th, respectively.
Junior Dennis Wolff finished 13th in the 800m run, junior John Blackwell came in 13th in the hammer throw, senior Brad Roach was 16th in the javelin and junior Marques Robie placed 18th in the 100m dash to round out the Cards' top-20 finishers.
The final day of the Alabama Relays will be Sunday.
