Women's Basketball falls to Memphis 87-72

MEMPHIS - The University of Louisville women's basketball team fell to Memphis 87-72 Sunday afternoon in the Pyramid. Sara Nord led the Cardinals with 19 points. Victoria Crawford of Memphis led all scorers with 26 points.
The Cards shot just 27.3 percent in the first half and were behind 34-40 at the half. At the 17:51 mark in the second half, Nina Simotes hit a jumper to put the Cards up 38-37, for their first lead since the start of the game. The Cards led for the next five minutes until Tamika Butler nailed a three to tie the score at 50 with 12:49 remaining.
Butler connected on a second trey to put Memphis up 55-52 at the 10:54 mark for good. With 7:04 remaining, Lori Nero cut the lead to 62-61 with a jumper.
Then Memphis used an 11-0 run to go up 73-61 with just under five minutes remaining. The Cards could get no closer.
Louisville shot 45.2 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 35.9 percent. Memphis shot 42.6 percent for the game and 37.5 percent from behind the arc. Louisville outrebounded Memphis 46-41.
Louisville will return to Memphis to play in the Conference USA Tournament, March 6-9.
