LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team beat visiting Indiana State 6-0 by taking the doubles point and sweeping singles in a rescheduled match today at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Bad weather in Terre Haute last Friday prevented Indiana State from making the trip.
The Cardinals have won eight of their last nine matches and their fourth shutout of the dual season. At 10-2, they have already exceeded last year's win total of six.
"We played well and I am happy with our effort. This is our third straight shutout and that makes me extremely pleased with the team effort it takes at every position," said first year coach Greg Davis. "We are putting forth team effort, not just counting on a few positions to win for us."
The No. 1 singles player, Marie Louise Frolich-Hansen handled her opponent, Carolina Salinas easily at 6-2, 6-1 and then paired with Kelly Taylor to blank Logan Becker and Magda Narczewska 8-0 at first singles.
"It was one of Marie Louise's best efforts," said Davis. "Going into our toughest week yet, it is good to see her dominating in doubles and singles. We'll need that in the next four matches."
Julie Penn and Melisa San Martin edged ISU 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and then watched as Paige Eber and Jasmin Singh were edged by Laura Whitney and Carolina Salinas 9-8 at No. 3 doubles.
Taylor won her singles match against Leah Esmero 7-5, 6-1 and San Martin rolled over Becker 6-0, 6-0. Singh and Eber both handled their singles opponent for the fifth and sixth point.
