LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville tops Ohio 3-1 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Desire' Miller scored a goal and added an assist as the University of Louisville field hockey team defeated visiting Mid-American Conference opponent Ohio University 3-1 Friday at Trager Stadium.
Miller put the Cardinals on the scoreboard at the 22:28 mark in the game when she sent sent a pass from freshman Lisa Wasser from the right side of the circle into the left corner of the goal cage to give her team a 1-0 lead.
The lead did not last long as Ohio's Lindsay Rothenberger netted a rebound from Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey to tie the game at 1-1 two minutes later. The teams went into halftime with the contest knotted at 1-1.
Louisville junior Suzanne Irwin sent a pass from senior Shannon Kemp into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead at the 48:56 mark in the game.
Cardinal senior Shelby Summers tipped a shot from Miller to add an insurance goal and make it a 3-1 game.
Hershey collected five saves and allowed one goal in the game. Ohio goalkeeper Jen Cote posted six stops in the contest. The Cardinals outshot the Bobcats 12-8 and held a 5-4 penalty corner advantage.
U of L 11-8 (6-3 MAC) will play Kent State (9-9, 7-2) for a share of the MAC regular season title Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
