
Field Hockey Tops Miami 4-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Mid-American Conference opponent Miami (Ohio) 4-0 Saturday, Oct. 25 at Trager Stadium.
Senior forward Olivia Netzler started the scoring for the Cardinals less than five minutes into the game when she broke away from Miami defenders and eluded Miami goalkeeper Kerri Matthews in the circle to give U of L the 1-0 lead. Louisville senior forward Shannon Kemp connected on a pass from Netzler to increase the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 at the 29:28 mark in the game. The Cardinals took the 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the RedHawks 14-1 and holding a 7-3 penalty corner advantage in the first period.
Louisville senior forward Desire' Miller converted a penalty stroke midway through the second half to make it a 3-0 game. Senior forward Shelby Summers capped off the scoring when she netted a rebound off of Matthews' pads for the 4-0 win. U of L outshot Miami 28-3 and held a 17-4 advantage in penalty corners in the contest.
Cardinal goalkeeper senior Christy Hershey posted her third shutout of the season. Matthews recorded 12 saves for the RedHawks. Miami falls to 1-14 (0-8 MAC).
U of L (9-8, 5-3) will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to face Indiana University on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
