Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"DePaul is a tough, hard nosed basketball team. We just got after it and played hard on defense and I'm proud of our guys for that extraordinary effort. We have done a great job of not only making the three but stopping it. That will bode well for you."
"Erik (Brown) and Kendall (Dartez) played terrific. Kendall was very active and he is improving, Ellis came alive and in a night that Marvin and Reece weren't the best players on the floor, we had others step up tonight."
(on Louisville's depth vs. DePaul's) "Our defensive tenacity can wear you out because of the numbers. We are playing 10-11 players versus their seven. Because we are one year ahead of them in the rebuilding process, we just had the numbers."
(on if playing without Reece Gaines for an extended period in the second half was helpful) "I think so. We have to learn to play without him and we have to do that next year. I was happy to see other people step up. Our guys did great things in the second half. Their tenacity was great tonight."
DePaul Head Coach Dave Leitao
"We played one of the best teams out there. I told Pitino before the game, you have to enjoy watching his team play. There are no egos on that team."
"They got us down in the first half and we didn't respond to the challenges in the second half and you can't expect to win when you do that."
"They have a very unique team in that they put a lot of points on the board. They shoot good from three-point range, free throw line and are very good defensively. We didn't do what we needed to defensively to win this game."
(on if Reece Gaines should be player of the year) "It's early in the game. All I know about him is that he is extremely talented. I remember him in high school when I tried to recruit him at Connecticut. He became a terrific shooter in his sophomore year and he's one of the best people and hardest workers around. I'm not sure he's player of the year since there is a lot of time left in the season but he's one of the best players around."
