This week has been great for the team! This past weekend we played Houston and TCU at home, and we played well in front of our home crowd. I had a really good game on Friday night against Houston, and it was the first time this season that I felt satisfied with my performance. Lately I've been trying to focus more on being a power player on the inside. Being an undersized post player makes me want to improve this aspect of my game. I need to get stronger and work harder to compete against my taller opponents.
The wins we had over the weekend were huge. Both teams were picked to finish ahead of us, and coming out with a victory gives the necessary confidence we need to compete for a conference championship. This year we are fortunate to play a lot of games at home. Freedom Hall has been a great place for us, as we seem to always play well there. It is much harder to win on the road! We have another chance to play Cincinnati in February, and I think the home crowd will be an advantage for us.
In the game against TCU I think fans could see how the team is improving. There are a lot of offensive weapons in the starting line-up and on the bench. Teams focus mainly on Sara and me, and that opens up someone else that is able to score. Everyone on the team is capable of stepping up in a game if another player is having an off-night. It is definitely a factor that makes this team competitive.
We are leaving for a road trip this weekend. Friday we travel to UAB and on Sunday we will be playing at South Florida, which is in Tampa. Being from Baton Rouge, I cannot get used to these cold temperatures here! I welcome warmer weather, and I hope to give everyone a positive update next week.
Today was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and I hope that everyone had a wonderful day off. I decided that I would post two quotes to share with you.
"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant." Martin Luther King Jr., Speech at Civil Rights March on Washington, August 28, 1963
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love, 1963
