
Field Hockey Tops Iowa 3-1

Philadelphia - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Iowa 3-1 Sunday at the Temple University Field Hockey Tournament in Philadelphia.
The two teams played a scoreless first half before Iowa's Tiffany Leister connected on a penalty stroke two minutes into the second half to give the Hawkeyes a 1-0 lead.
Louisville's Olivia Netzler tied the contest with 12:29 remaining in the game. Two minutes later, Shannon Kemp notched the game winner when she connected on a penalty corner with an assist from Danielle Barr to give the Cards a 2-1 lead. Joanie Frame gave U of L an insurance goal on another Barr assist in the closing minute of the game to make the score 3-1.
U of L goalkeeper Christy Hershey collected 11 saves in the game.
Louisville finished the 2001 season at No. 14 in the NCAA ranking and No. 15 in the NFHCA. Iowa was ranked No. 18 in the NCAA and No. 12 in the NFHCA rankings.
The Cardinals (2-0) will play their home opener against Wake Forest on Friday, Sept. 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
