
Field Hockey Falls to Wake Forest 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The fourth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell to No. 7 Wake Forest 4-3 Friday at Trager Stadium.
Wake Forest took an early lead when Kelly Dostal scored on an assist from Maria Whitehead less than four minutes into the game. Wake's Maeke Boreel added an unassisted goal to give the Demon Deacons a 2-0 lead.
Louisville's Desire' Miller took an assist from Jen Welgosh to pull the Cards within one with 3:35 remaining in the first half. Kim Hughes netted an unassisted goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first half to tie the game at 2-2.
Wake Forest's Emily Ruth capitalized on a penalty corner to give her team a 3-2 lead eight minutes into the second half. Louisville's Miller responded with an unassisted goal a minute later to tie the game at 3-3.
Dostal's second goal of the game came on a Wake Forest penalty corner with 10 minutes remaining in the contest to give the Demon Deacons the 4-3 win.
Wake Forest outshot Louisville 13-10 and held a 9-3 penalty corner advantage.
Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey collected three saves. Wake Forest goalkeeper Katie Ridd had four stops in the game.
Louisville (2-1) will play host to No. 20 Delaware (4-1) on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Wake Forest (2-2) will play Delaware Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
