
Field Hockey Falls to Delaware 3-2

The University of Louisville field hockey team lost to Delaware 3-2 on Sunday at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals are ranked fourth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, while the Blue Hens are No. 20.
Louisville's Kim Hughes nailed a penalty stroke at the 16:35 mark in the first half to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
Delaware responded a minute later when Leah Geib netted an assist from Erica LaBar to tie the game at 1-1. Kim Wagaman converted on a penalty stroke with 10:53 remaining in the first period to give Blue Hens a 2-1 halftime lead.
Hughes connected on an assist from Desire' Miller to tie the game at 2-2 eight minutes into the second half.
LaBar scored the game-winner for Delaware with 12:13 left to play. Lauren Carr assisted on the goal. The Blue Hens withstood a flurry of Louisville shots and penalty corners in the final 10 minutes to hold the 3-2 win.
Louisville outshot Delaware 18-6 and held a 9-2 penalty corner advantage.
U of L goalkeeper Christy Hershey collected three saves in the game. Delaware goalkeepers Stephanie Judefine and Heidi Hibshman combined for 10 saves.
The Cardinals (2-2) will play host to No. 16 Ohio State on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
