
Field Hockey Tops Ohio 3-2 in Double Overtime

ATHENS, Ohio - The eleventh-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team opened Mid-American Conference play with a 3-2 double overtime win against defending league champion Ohio University Friday in Athens, Ohio.
The Bobcats opened the scoring when Andrea Voros capitalized on penalty corner with assists from Jenn Watt and Elizabeth Holtzman midway through the first half.
Louisville's Pip Sanders evened the score with an assist from Suzanne Irwin with five minutes remaining in the period for a 1-1 halftime score.
Ohio's Elizabeth Unger pulled the Bobcats ahead 2-1 at the 52:32 mark in the second half.
Louisville responded two minutes later when Danielle Barr converted a penalty corner with a feed from Kim Hughes.
The game remained tied at 2-2 through regulation and one 15-minute overtime period. The teams were in the second overtime when Olivia Netzler delivered the game-winner at the 95:18 mark to give the Cards the 3-2 win.
U of L outshot Ohio 25-7 and held a 13-6 penalty corner advantage. Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey had three saves in the game. Ohio falls to 2-4 (0-1). The Bobcats' goalkeeper, Ashley Pitkin collected nine stops.
The Cardinals (5-3, 1-0 MAC) will continue league play when they travel to Kent, Ohio to play No. 10 Kent State Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1:00 p.m.
