Louisville, Ky. - Home games against Final Four participant Vanderbilt and instate rival Kentucky highlight the University of Louisville women's basketball schedule released today by head coach Martin Clapp.
The 26-game regular-season schedule includes 11 games against teams that participated in the 2001 postseason, including matchups with two possible Top 10 teams in Vanderbilt and LSU.
"Our two year 25-1 home record will be tested this season," said Clapp. "It is the toughest home schedule in the last five seasons. We have Vanderbilt, UT-Chattanooga and all the top league teams at home this season.
"Overall it is a balanced schedule. The league will be the strongest it has ever been. Everyone has really improved their schedules and should be prepared when conference play comes around."
Three games will be televised with the Conference USA Television Network, the first on Feb. 9 at Charlotte, Feb. 16 at home against Conference USA Tournament champion Cincinnati and Feb. 23 at home against DePaul.
After two exhibition games against Athletes in Action and the Hoosier All-Stars, Louisville will tip off the regular season on the road Nov. 24 against Evansville at 7:00 p.m. They will then travel to Boca Raton, Fla. over the Thanksgiving break for a matchup with Florida Atlantic before travelling to Bowling Green to face Western Kentucky on Dec. 3. The Cards will tip off the home schedule on Dec. 13 with Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. Then on Dec. 15 they will host Southern Conference winner Tennessee-Chattanooga.
The Cardinals will travel Baton Rouge, La. to play in the LSU Crawfish Classic. The Cards will face New Orleans in the first round with a possible second round matchup with host LSU.
The Cards will then return home for a six game stretch, starting with Eastern Illinois. A rematch with WNIT opponent Ball State is slated for Dec. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Then the Cards will face Troy State on Dec. 28.
The Cardinals will host Vanderbilt on Jan. 2 and Kentucky on Jan. 5. They wrap up the nonconference schedule on Jan. 7 against Columbia University.
The Cardinals will face league champion TCU at home on Jan. 19. Houston, Tulane and Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette and Southern Miss will also visit Freedom Hall. The Cardinals will travel to UAB, Cincinnati, Charlotte, South Florida, East Carolina, Saint Louis and wrap up the league schedule at Memphis. The top 12 teams will advance to the Conference USA Tournament in Memphis March 6-9.
