Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball head coach Martin Clapp announced on Friday the addition of Steve Huber to the Cardinal coaching staff. Huber replaces Kelley Hall who took over the head coaching position at Louisiana-Lafayette in April.
Huber comes to Louisville after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past three years at San Diego State. He will be involved with all aspects of the Louisville program including working with the post players, recruiting and scouting.
"We are exciting to have someone with his experience," said head coach Martin Clapp. "I was looking for someone with successful head coaching experience like Steve. He also has the junior college connections that I felt we needed. And from a recruiting standpoint I was looking for someone with different ties, he has some west coast as well as midwest ties which should compliment my staff."
Prior to arriving at San Diego State, Huber served as head coach for five seasons at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. While at Benedictine, he won two conference championships and guided the team to three consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances. During the 1997-98 season he was named the WBCA NAIA District III Coach of the Year. He also earned Heart of America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1997-98 and 1998-99.
Before his stint at Benedictine College, Huber served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Bradley University during the 1993-94 season. Between coaching stints, he owned and operated several basketball camps in the Midwest as well as conducting his own scouting service.
Huber also served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Northwest Missouri State from 1986-88 and at St. Cloud State from 1982-84.
