LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's track and field team placed third at the Cardinal Challenge Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Park Track Stadium.

Miami (OH) won the event with a score of 144, edging Cincinnati (143) by one point. Louisville followed with 90 points. Eastern Kentucky (83), Western Kentucky (68) and Marquette (57) rounded out the team scores.

In the high jump, freshman Matt Berrier placed second with a height of six feet, four inches. He was followed by sophomore teammate Jeff Adams, who also cleared 6-4 to finish third.

Senior J.R. McCleney ran a personal-best time of 49.02 in the 400m to finish second for the Cardinals.

Senior John Wawrysh recorded three top-four finishes. The London, Ontario native was third in both the discus (159-2) and hammer (149-7) and fourth in the shot put (42-11).

Sophomore John Blackwell was second in the shot put with a throw of 47-4.5 and freshman Billy Hollan cleared 14-6 to place third in the pole vault to round out the Cardinals' top finishers.

Louisville travels to Oxford, Ohio next Saturday to compete in the Miami Invitational.
