Tampa, Fla. - The University of Louisville women's golf team finished in fifth place of the Waterlefe Invitational on Tuesday. The Cardinals shot a 316 in the final round but it was not enough to pull ahead.
Michigan State shot a 308 to win the tournament with a score of 902. Tulane finished second with a score of 918 and host South Florida finished third with a score of 934.
"Even though we finished in the top five we were still a little disappointed we were not able to move up," said head coach Kelly Meyers. "We lost a lot of strokes, not from our short game but basically from our placement of shots.
"Overall we stayed in the pack and are happy with our play after the bad weather. I was real happy with how Cindy Pasechnik and Jessica Kell played and were able to finish in the top 20."
Junior Cindy Pasechnik shot a low round of 76 to finish in 12th place, marking her fourth top 20 finish of the season. Teammate Jessica Kell shot a 81 today to finish tied for 13th for her second top 20 finish on the year. Sophomore Morgan Hapney shot a 77 in the final round to finish tied for 30th.
The Cards will be back in action on March 25-26 at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational.
