LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on a busy Sunday when the Cards fell 5-2 to Murray State and 6-1 to Miami of Ohio.
"We knew Miami would be tough because they had beaten Murray the night before, " said Meg Peavy, Louisville head coach.
Louisville's bright spot was freshman Kelly Taylor, who got her first and second wins of the season after joining the team a month ago. Taylor beat Miami's Grace Cascarilla 6-3, 6-4 and Murray's Cheryl Graham 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
"We played with a lot of heart and spirit and I can literally see them get better and better as they play," said Peavy. "We are still not quite in our comfort zone as we settle into the roles where they can all contribute. Louisville's other win came from Mariana Torres who beat Murray's Jennifer Ward in three sets.
The Cardinals fall to 0-6 but have shown steady improvement each outing.
"Although we played two matches in one day, our loss was not due to fatigue, but a matter of transferring what we are doing well in practice to what we take onto the competitive court," said Peavy.
