Women's Tennis Loses to Middle Tennessee

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team lost to the Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders 7-0 at the Racquet Club on Sunday.

The Lady Raiders started off hot and never cooled off as the No. 32 ranked doubles duo of Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell defeated U of L's Paige Eber and Melissa San Martin 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, Kelly Kiehna and Marina Torres were defeated by Verena Preiss and Jennifer Klaschka 8-2 and Kelly Taylor and Julie Penn lost to the No. 3 team of Michaela Gridling and Emily Vest 9-8(4) in a hard fought loss.

In single's action, Klaschka defeated San Martin 6-1, 6-3, and Preiss defeated Kiehna 6-0, 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, Penn was defeated by the Lady Raiders' Gridling 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Torres was defeated at No. 4 singles by Varnell 6-1, 7-5, and Eber lost to Tanja Buchheim 6-1, 6-0. The Lady Raiders secured the shutout when Vest earned a hard fought victory over Taylor at No. 6. Taylor, a freshman, has continued to improve with each match. The match was decided by a superb tiebreaker.

Louisville (0-5) will host Southern Illinois on Saturday, February 16, at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at 9:00 a.m.
