New Orleans, La. - Tulane used an 11-3 run midway through the second half to defeat Louisville 70-54 on Sunday afternoon in Fogelman Arena. Gwen Slaughter led the Green Wave with 17 points while Marju Sober led the Cardinals with 15 points.
"The game was lost before the game even started," said head coach Martin Clapp. "Too many players were worrying about themselves instead of the team. Tulane executed well and we didn't have good help side. I was proud of the way we came back in the first half. And I thought we played well at the beginning of the second half."
Louisville cut the Tulane lead to one at the 12:11 mark (40-39) with a fastbreak layup by LaKisha Hoffman. The Cardinals kept it close until the final eight minutes when the Green Wave went on the 11-2 run.
The Cards shot 31.3 percent from the field and after shooting 33.3 percent from behind the arc in the first half, the Cards hit just 15.4 percent in the second half. Tulane out rebounded the Cardinals 44-43 and outscored Louisville 39-15 in the post.
Tulane started the game with a 12-3 lead in the first five minutes of play. Tulane built their lead to 13 points (31-18) at the 6:33 mark. The Cardinals responded with an 11-2 cutting Tulane's lead to four (33-29) at the half.
The Cardinals will host Memphis on Friday, Feb. 8 in Freedom Hall at 7:00 p.m.
